Data and Statistics

A snapshot of violent crime in Beaufort County

As we continue to hear about increasing levels of violence in the United States, it is important for the public to know what we are doing to address the issue in Beaufort County.

Although Beaufort County and its municipalities are safe communities, we do see a significant amount of gun violence and domestic violence, much of which is committed by repeat offenders.

Through publicly available data from the 14th Judicial Circuit Public Index, in the interest of providing Beaufort County residents and guests with a better understanding of the nature and prevalence of firearms charges, domestic violence charges, court dispositions, recidivism and the invariable impacts on public safety, we have prepared two reports.

Our weapons report outlines firearms-related charges filed in the county since 2010. Our report on domestic violence outlines charges since 2015, when South Carolina’s laws on domestic violence were updated to address increasing violence against women.

We will continue to track and make available to the public the status of firearms-related, domestic violence-related and all cases directed to the General Sessions Court.
