Information Technology
Systems Analyst

The Information Technology Systems Analyst is assigned to the Administrative and Support Services Division of the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office. The Analyst provides installation, maintenance and support of servers and backup systems in physical and virtual environments with Windows Server 2019, 2016, Linux and other operating systems. The Analyst also provides technical work regarding the installation, maintenance, hardware and software support (e.g. install, maintain, repair, upgrade) for agency computers, printers, faxes, scanners, etc. Installs and supports operating system software, (e.g. Windows 11, Linux and various Emulators), and Microsoft Office, Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, etc.

  • Provides technical work regarding the installation, maintenance, hardware and software support (e.g. install, maintain, repair, upgrade) for agency servers, computers, printers, faxes, scanners, etc. Installs and supports operating system software, (e.g. Windows 11, 10 and various Emulators), and Microsoft Office, Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, etc.
  • Provides guidance, oversight and exercises independent judgment, practical decision-making, problem-solving, planning and accountability for assigned responsibilities. Responsible for obeying and enforcing all applicable directives, rules and regulations of the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office.This position reports to the Information Technology Manager.
  • Maintains all necessary standards, qualifications, certification standards required of a Information Technology Systems Analyst.

  • Maintains positive working relationships with other employees, agencies, and partners.
  • Associate Degree in Computer Technology/Science or equivalent training and experience in the field of computer technology and science of at least two to three years.
  • Prefer but not required A+, N+, S+ or Microsoft MCSE certifications with additional training or experience in technology with training and experience in computer servers, software and hardware.
  • Or any combination of training, college education, and experience which provides the skills, knowledge, and abilities required for the position.
  • Must maintain training standards as established by the Sheriff’s Office.
  • Must have or be able to obtain a valid driver’s license at the time of appointment.
  • Physical Requirements

    • Ability to pick up and transport equipment up to 50 pounds. Physical ability to move equipment or furniture for access to data jack panels and data processing equipment. Ability to maneuver in small rooms and tight areas for diagnostic tests of equipment. Physical ability to access and work in ceilings with ladders, work beneath a raised floor, and underneath desks.

  • Language Ability

    • Requires the ability to read and comprehend a variety of books, maps, policies and procedures, and technical manuals regarding information technology. Must be able to prepare detailed reports, correspondence, operational plans, reports, and written projects using correct punctuation, spelling and grammar.

  • Intelligence

    • Requires the ability to apply principals of logical thinking to define problems, collect data, established facts and draw valid conclusions; to interpret an extensive variety of instructions in mathematical, written, oral, diagrammatic or schedule form; Requires the ability to apply influence systems in managing and understanding complex principals and techniques; experienced in the applicants of software and computer hardware design; to make independent judgments in the absence of supervision; to acquire knowledge of topics related to primary occupation.

    • Requires the ability to record and deliver information, to explain procedures, to follow and give verbal and written instructions, to counsel and teach employees. Ability to communicate effectively and efficiently with diversified persons of varying educational backgrounds.

    • Requires the ability to deal with people beyond giving and receiving instructions. Must be adaptable to work with a variety of personnel backgrounds to include law enforcement officers.

Ability to take immediate corrective action for any deficiencies that may occur within the Branch’s areas of responsibility.     • Has experience in both server and desktop software and hardware design. Ability to prepare technical and non-technical reports in a clear and concise manner, both orally and written. Skill in providing technical training to others. Skill in gathering technical information for trouble calls from non-technical personnel. Skill in evaluating and identifying the source of the problem within a communications system with a minimum expenditure of time and resources. Diagnose problems or malfunctions and accomplish repairs in a minimal amount of time. Establish priorities for own workload. Remain current on changing communications technology through training, seminars, and peer networking. Follow verbal and written instructions. Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing. Ability to be flexible in responding to changes in schedules and job priorities. Ability to use independent judgment in routine and non-routine situations. Manage and maintain control of assigned activities. Have the ability to show a high level of discretion and flexibility in daily operations. Examples include but are not limited to the following: CD’s, DVD’s, flash cards, thumb drives, internal hard drives, external hard drives, Micro SD cards, MP3 players, GPS units, IPODS and digital cameras. The salary for this position is $72,083.00 annually for those who meet the minimum qualifications, which include an Associates Degree in Computer Technology/Science and two years of prior experience. 

Salary is adjusted based on additional experience and education. 

This position is eligible for a sign-on bonus of $5,000 and a relocation stipend of $2,500.

Hiring Phases
