Sheriff's Technician

The primary duty of a Beaufort County Sheriff’s Technician is to perform clerical duties involving the receiving, entering, maintaining, researching, retrieving and distribution of all types of records, orders, documents, evidence and other data pertaining to the enforcement of local laws of Beaufort County; both criminal and civil.

General Qualifications and Overview

  • Must be able to communicate effectively in writing, in person and/or over the telephone.
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft 365 products
  • Must be able to operate office equipment including, but not limited to, telephone, computer, copy machine, scanner and fax machine.
  • Position is full-time, non-exempt, with schedule of 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.
  • Position is assigned to the Hilton Head Island office located at 70 Shelter Cove Lane, Hilton Head Island, SC 29928.
  • Position works under the direct supervision of the Criminal Records Supervisor.

  • If you have prior military service, a copy of your DD214 with your separation code and the type of discharge you received.
  • A certified driving record from the Department of Motor Vehicles from all states licensed over the past six years.
  • If you are a former law enforcement officer, provide all training certificates.

SALARY, INCENTIVES & BENEFITS

The Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office has a highly competitive pay plan.

The minimum starting salary is $39,142 annually.

This position is eligible to receive an annual pay increase based on satisfactory performance evaluations.

Pay Incentives for Education and Spanish Fluency
Pay incentives are offered for higher education, prior experience and for those who can demonstrate fluency in reading, writing and speaking the Spanish language.

Cost of Living, Promotions and Overtime
There are periodic cost of living adjustments.

This position is promoted at scheduled intervals during the first five years of employment.

  • Year 1 – Promotion to Sheriff’s Technician I
  • Year 3 – Promotion to Sheriff’s Technician II
  • Year 5 – Promotion to Sheriff’s Technician III
