Colonel Richard Roper

Joined the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office in 1984.
Originally from Beaufort, S.C.

Colonel Richard Roper serves as Commander of the Administrative Division of the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office. In this role, he oversees the Criminal Warrant, Civil Process, Recruiting and Staffing, School Resource Officer, Community Resource Officer and Information Technology units. In addition, he oversees the Special Services Section, the Evidence and Property Section and the Forensic Services Laboratory.

Colonel Roper began his career with the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office in March 1984 as a patrol officer. In his career at the Sheriff’s Office, he served as a patrolman, a detective, a supervisory detective, a member of the Drug Task Force, a member of the SWAT team and as the General Sessions Coordinator. He was commissioned to Lieutenant in 1999, Captain in 2002, Major in 2006 and Colonel in 2021.
