On the night of October 5, 2011, 44-year-old Julius Chaplin was shot to death in his driveway at 172 Fripp Point Road, St. Helena Island.
Witnesses reported that shortly after Chaplin left his residence to go for a walk at around 10:00 pm, they heard gunshots and heard a vehicle speed off. No witnesses could provide a description of the vehicle.
Autopsy revealed that Chaplin died as a result of multiple gunshot wounds. Evidence found at the scene indicated more than one firearm was used in Chaplin’s shooting.
A person of interest was identified as Joe Washington, who was murdered the following day.
