Members of the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office Bloodhound Tracking Team joined K-9 handlers and law enforcement officers from more than 40 counties across South Carolina at the State House on Wednesday, March 4, 2026, to support legislation aimed at strengthening protections for law enforcement K9s.
The legislation, H.3034 Fargo’s, Hyco’s, Rico’s, Coba’s, Wick’s, and Mikka’s Law, passed the House Judiciary Subcommittee on Wednesday and now moves forward in the legislative process.
The bill is intended to recognize and protect the vital role K-9s play in law enforcement operations across the state.
Law enforcement K-9s are trained to track suspects, assist in locating missing persons, detect narcotics and explosives, and protect their handlers in dangerous situations. The dogs are critical partners who help officers safely carry out their duties while enhancing public safety.
The Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office is proud to stand with law enforcement agencies across South Carolina in advocating for measures that recognize the contributions and sacrifices of K-9 officers.
