The Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office is proud to announce our continued participation in the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies, Inc. (CALEA®) process. As part of the assessment process, the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office would like to extend an invitation to our residents, visitors, and other law enforcement agencies to provide feedback on an Accreditation Public Comment Portal.
The purpose of this public comment portal is to receive comments regarding an agency’s compliance with CALEA standards, engagement with the service community, delivery of public safety services, and overall candidacy for accredited status. These comments can be in the form of commendations or concerns. The overall intent of the accreditation process is to provide the participating agency with information to support continuous improvement, as well as foster the pursuit of professional excellence.
Please note CALEA is not an investigatory body and subsequently the public portal should not be used to submit information for such purposes. Additionally, there will be no response other than acknowledgement to submissions; however, the information will be considered in context to its relevancy to compliance with standards and the tenets of CALEA® Accreditation.
The Accreditation Public Comment Portal can be accessed via the Sheriff’s Office website at bcso.net or by visiting the CALEA Accreditation Public Comment Portal page.
In 2010, the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office was initially awarded international accreditation as a law enforcement agency through CALEA. Then in 2016, the Sheriff’s Office’s Communications Center (Emergency Dispatch 9-1-1) was awarded its accreditation through CALEA.
