The Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office is pleased to announce a first of its kind initiative in the state of South Carolina among law enforcement agencies in regards to digital forensics.
Nearly one year ago, Sheriff P.J. Tanner began the process of bringing together 15 agencies to advance technology throughout the state, while cutting costs to those participating.
The Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office purchased an investigative digital intelligence solution, valued at $192,000, as part of a $500,000 one-time appropriation received through the South Carolina Department of Public Safety last fall. The access to funding was championed by South Carolina House of Representatives member Bill Herbkersman for Beaufort County. Moving forward, the total cost of the digital intelligence solution will be split among participating agencies.
With the addition of this new technology, the investigative workflows of the Sheriff’s Office and participating agencies will become more efficient, which enables them to accelerate investigations of crimes and solve more cases faster.
