Sheriff’s Office investigating early morning shooting in Burton: one man dead; one woman wounded

Just after 1:30 July 23, 2021, Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a report of a shooting with two gunshot victims in the area of Stanley Farms and Laurel Bay roads in Burton.

When deputies arrived, they located a wounded man and woman and secured the scene for Beaufort County Emergency Medical Services (EMS).

EMS transported the two victims to the Beaufort Memorial Hospital for treatment.

The wounded man, 29-year-old Deonne McLendon of Burton, died at the hospital; the wounded woman was treated and later released.

At the scene, deputies learned that the victims had been shot near the road and the subjects responsible fled prior to their arrival.

Sheriff’s Office investigators were notified of the shooting and responded.

Investigators processed the crime scene for forensic evidence and, as of the time of this advisory, continue to interview witnesses and gather information.
