Sheriff’s Office investigating two unrelated weekend shootings on Hilton Head Island

The Sheriff’s Office is investigating two separate weekend shooting incidents on Hilton Head Island that left three people injured.

On Friday, June 9, 2023, at approximately 8:46 p.m., deputies were called to 11 Southwood Park Drive, Hilton Head Gardens, Hilton Head Island, SC for a gunshot victim.  When deputies arrived, they learned that one person had been shot and was transported to Hilton Head Regional Medical Center by a citizen.

Deputies responded to the hospital and found a 32-year-old woman with a single gunshot wound to her head.  She was later transferred to Savannah Memorial Hospital where she remains in stable condition.

It is believed that the woman sustained the gunshot wound while trying to intervene in a dispute.

Another woman was injured in the affray but did not require hospitalization.  A vehicle parked in the development was damaged from bullet impacts.

Investigators are working to locate any witnesses that may have observed the shooting or the disturbance that led to the shooting.

In an unrelated event the following evening, deputies were called to Green Shell Park, 99 Squire Pope Road, shortly after 6:20 p.m. on Saturday, June 10, 2023, for several reports of gunfire.

Witnesses at the scene told deputies that there was a graduation party being held at the park that was nearing its end when the shooting occurred.  There were approximately 30 people in attendance when gunfire erupted.

An 18-year-old Bluffton youth sustained a single gunshot wound to his leg.   He was transported to Hilton Head Hospital by a citizen before deputies arrived.  He has since been released.

Both incidents remain under investigation.  If anyone has any information, they are encouraged to contact Inv. Weich at 843-255-3313 or if wishing to remain anonymous, Crime Stoppers of the Lowcountry at 843-554-1111.
