On Thursday, March 2, 2023, at approximately 7:30 p.m., the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office was called to 34 Sundance Lane in Sun City for a death scene.
Sun City Security initially responded to their residence to check on Robert and Marcello Caravello after family members had not heard from them.
Sun City Security was able to gain entry into the home and Robert and Marcello were found deceased in the primary bedroom. Sun City Security contacted the Sheriff’s Office for assistance.
Sheriff’s Office investigators were able to determine that 69-year-old Marcello suffered from three gunshot wounds to her head. 71-year-old Robert sustained a single gunshot wound to his chest.
A firearm was found in proximity to the couple during the crime scene investigation.
Forensic autopsies on both were conducted at the Beaufort County Coroner’s Office on March 6th, 2023, to determine the cause and manner of death.
Autopsy findings indicate that Marcello Caravello’s death was caused by a gunshot wound to her head and the manner was determined to be murder. Robert Caravello’s death was caused by a self-inflicted gunshot wound to his chest and the manner was determined to be suicide.
