National Missing Persons Day: Sheriff’s Office urges immediate reporting

A graphic for National Missing Persons Day features silhouettes of people, with one outlined in yellow. "National Missing Persons Day" is written prominently. The emblem of the "Beaufort County Sheriff's Office" is in the corner.

February 3 is recognized as National Missing Persons Day, a time to raise awareness and remind the public of the importance of acting quickly when a loved one goes missing.

The Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office emphasizes that there is no waiting period to report a missing person. Every moment is critical, especially when the individual is a child, elderly, has a medical condition, or is believed to be in danger. Anyone reporting a missing person should call 911 immediately.

Investigators also stress the importance of keeping recent photographs of loved ones. Updated photos of children and elderly family members can be invaluable during a missing persons investigation and may significantly improve response efforts.

The Sheriff’s Office encourages anyone with information about a missing person in Beaufort County to come forward. Even the smallest detail could make a difference in bringing someone home.

Tips can be reported by calling the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office non-emergency dispatch line at 843-524-2777. Anonymous tips may also be submitted through Crime Stoppers of Beaufort County using the P3 Tips app, online at TIPSBFT.com, or by calling 844-TIPS-BFT (844-847-7238).

Together, the community and law enforcement can help reunite missing loved ones with their families.
